Our client, a leading Design Support Service Provider has an immediate requirement for a Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Specialist to support the NDE work across a network of Design Support Offices. This involves working with leading technical specialists across the full range of technical disciplines. Through focus on safety, areas of new technology and legislation, the group are committed to enhancing the safety of life and property at sea and to advance public education within the engineering and technological disciplines.

The Materials and NDE Department offer expertise and advice in the routine methods of NDE such as radiography, ultrasonics, liquid penetrant testing, magnetic particle inspection and eddy current testing. Services are provided for marine and industrial applications, relating to specialist technical advice and providing a consultancy service on all NDE matters to both internal employees and external clients.

Specific duties will include:

  • Carrying out NDE audits, inspections and failure investigations
  • Preparing reports and approval endorsements
  • Reviewing NDE procedures
  • Maintaining NDE records of employees completing NDE training exercises
  • Administering surveyor re-qualification examinations
  • Reviewing applications of firms wishing to be included in the list of service suppliers for the thickness measurement of hull structure
  • Revision of marine rules relating to NDE
  • Assist in the delivery of training courses when appropriate and assist in the development and maintenance of novel CD-ROM/internet training systems and methods.

As a guide the position will require an NDE engineer competent to PCN Level II in the majority of the NDE techniques. Applicants should preferably be Chartered Engineers, or have qualifications leading to Chartered Engineer status. An understanding of marine classification or industrial environment relating to fabrication and in service inspection surveys would be advantageous. You should also be able to demonstrate commercial awareness and well-developed communication skills and have the ability to work in a team environment.
