Job Description

Our Client, a world leading marine services provider, has an immediate requirement for a Marine Senior International Labour Organisation (ILO) Specialist.

You will be based in Southampton, UK as part of a dedicated service team providing specialist knowledge and interpretation of the ILO Maritime Labor Convention (2006) with a particular focus on the welfare of seafarers. As a Senior Specialist you will be able to demonstrate working knowledge of the ILO Convention in order to help lead the promotion and delivery of related client-based advisory/ training/ inspection and certification services.

Your role will also involve the achievement of performance-based marketing and business development targets.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To deliver specialist knowledge and interpretation of the ILO Maritime Labour Convention 2006 both to internal and external clients
  • To implement and monitor agreed marketing plans to achieve the planned provision of advisory, training and certification services to clients
  • To proactively seek to identify and report new business opportunities
  • To engage marine clients, national authorities and industry bodies as a senior marine representative 
  • To communicate actively with internal colleagues on all ILO matters, including the seafarer complaints process
  • To deliver both classroom and inter-personal training to internal / external clients on all ILO matters
  • To co-ordinate the workload of a small inspection team and to ensure necessary service delivery / line management reporting against agreed performance targets
  • To deliver ILO inspections / certification as required
  • To ensure compliance with both performance and quality standards / targets set by Global Marine Business and by Group Business Assurance
  • To ensure effective knowledge and application of corporate health and safety requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • Achieved a Master Mariner/Chief Engineer Class I Certificate of Competence or Degree level graduate or equivalent with previous and relevant marine operational experience that could include but not be limited to deck/ engine room officer, ship’s purser manning agent, P&I Club personnel at a senior level etc.
  • You will be a self-motivated/ proactive individual with excellent communication skills. This will be combined with good analytical skills and the ability to manage your own assigned projects and responsibilities, while fully supporting the business values and objectives of your operational teams
  • Experience in providing training 
  • Experience in providing advice / consultancy 
  • Previous experience in a role as an inspector or surveyor 
  • Regular client contact and willingness to travel will be required, sometimes at short notice, requiring a valid passport and driving license.
